I hate making New Year’s resolutions, generally because they are really just an admission of the things I should be doing any day of the year and simply don’t.  I should resolve to eat better, to exercise, to be more patient, to wear a smile more. But those are all things I need to remind myself about way more than once a year. So this year I have one and only one very practical and important resolution:

#1) I resolve to read more to my infant son. By the time she was 1, I had read hundreds, if not thousands of books to my daughter. My son, however, has never wanted to stay still even for the shortest books. Plus, once he gets home from child care, we can barely keep him up long enough to eat dinner, let alone to read. Books have simply fallen out of his routine. So I will find the shortest books and make a point to read at least one to him every night at bedtime and every morning after his bottle, and I will have my husband do the same. Nothing more, nothing less, nothing else.
