10 Things I Learned After Having a Baby

10 Things I Learned After Having a Baby

There are many things that I have learned about life after having a baby. Things that once seemed so important to me, like having a completely organized home, are now on the back burner. It’s amazing how much a smile from Zoe can turn around my whole day and make me feel complete. Even when things are difficult, my outlook has changed and my priorities have changed. I learned a LOT in the first few weeks with a newborn. And now, six months later, I’ve learned even more. Here are a few of my top realizations since becoming a mom.

10 Things I Learned After Having a Baby

1. At any given time there will be spit-up somewhere on me. My wardrobe used to primarily be black – now it is primarily white  solely because it makes spit up less noticeable.

2. I have at least three pacifiers with me at all times. I used to be prepared for anything – now I am prepared for anything baby-wise. I’ve got pacifiers, wipes, diapers, toys and burp cloths everywhere.

3. Being able to drink an entire mug of hot coffee in peace at work is worth its weight in gold.

4. Sleep is a luxury. With Zoe now sleeping through the night (it took awhile), I find myself more rested and eagerly waiting for her to wake up in the morning so I can hold her and listen to her babble.

5. I never could have imagined how much laundry someone so small can produce.

6. Timing is everything – there is no more spur of the moment trips to the mall. Everything must be meticulously planned around naps and mealtime.

7. Even the littlest milestone, like grasping a toy, can be the most exciting moment.

8. There is not enough storage on my phone for all of the photos and videos I want to take. We have had to invest in an external hard drive and set up photo sharing websites in order to keep track of all of the photos.

9. I care less about the dishes in the sink, laundry in the drier and disorganized mess around my house. My time is better spent simply interacting with my daughter.

10. A sleeping baby is one of the most beautiful sights in the world.
