4 1/2 Year Olds Are Not Cute

I keep hearing about this study that came out stating that once a child turns 4 1/2, his inherent cuteness is gone. He is no longer irresistable. I heard the doctor who led the study on the radio say it was as simple as showing people photos of children and asking if they were cute or not.

Well, I happen to have a 4 1/2 year old and I definitely have started to notice he’s turning into an awkward little boy. First off, his hair. It’s terrible. He has cowlicks all over and his hair just won’t stay put.

Second, his feet…they’re giant. They’ve been big since he was born and now his body just needs to grow into them.

Lastly, this time of year, it’s always evident how tall he’s getting. Each Spring I see that his pants are just a tad too short, but I hate buying new pants knowing that shorts season is just around the corner. The same thing is happening to his brother.

I do however still see that sliver of little boy in him every now and again. When his face is all scrunched up from screaming that he doesn’t want to put his pajamas on…I’d agree, he’s not irresistible. But then again, neither is his two year old brother when he’s doing the very same thing. But when he flashes his smile or has a look of pure joy on his face…or better yet, when he’s asleep…I think he’s simply irresistible.

Awww, I don’t want to know this! My mom was telling me that boys will no longer be cute once they hit a certain age and I told her my son will always be cute. I hope!
