Back-to-School Shopping: New Sneakers
A few days before the first day of Kindergarten, I wanted to make sure Max’s shoes were still the right size. We took a back-to-school shopping trip to the mall (which we pretty much never do), and had his feet measured. His shoes were fine, but Ben’s? Ben’s were a size and a half too small. Seriously? How was he not complaining that his shoes hurt? I had no idea his feet had grown that much.
I didn’t see anything at the mall that I liked for him so the next day I picked him up a pair I thought he’d love from the clearance rack at another department store. When he saw them, he immediately said he didn’t like them and would not wear them. Back to the store those went. I came home and created a Favorites list on Zappos and figured I’d narrow down the choices but let him pick. I chose funky green ones, bright blue and orange ones, more sedate navy and red ones. All really cute and perfect in my opinion.
Well, Ben didn’t agree. He took one look at the list and immediately declared that he only wanted Pumas. He’s had one other pair of Pumas, which at first he refused to wear. We had to start calling them his “pumped up kicks” because he loved the Foster the People song that was out at the time. Finally he wore them…until they were too small and had holes. He’s had a few pairs of other brands in between but I guess those Pumas really stuck in his mind because he was insistent that he wanted another pair. But this time, they had to be black. I tried to steer him toward other more vibrant colors that better matched his wardrobe, but nope, they had to be black…hightops.
So now, my little prep is sporting some black and grey hightop basketball sneakers…and he’s loving them. And what I love, is Puma’s Kider Fit system. Now, as long as Ben’s love for Pumas continues, I’ll always know when Ben is ready for some new kicks.
