My daughter, as I’m sure is the case for many 4-year olds, is quite the little negotiator. Last night we were packing to go away for the weekend. We told her we were going to the beach, but that it would be cold. There was some excitement about wearing her new fuzzy pink gloves, and then she realized that she wouldn’t be able to wear her bathing suit because it is too cold. The negotiating began. First, she told me that she didn’t want to get sand on her clothes, so she needed to pack her bathing suit. I said no, it’s too cold for bathing suits on a New England beach right now. Second attempt, “But, Mommy, I will put on some leggings underneath to keep me warm.”
We didn’t pack the bathing suit.
