Cleaning Tips

I have a confession to make. I don’t wash my floors very often. And by not very often, I mean hardly ever. I just can’t find the time. We moved to a new house in May and have been busy almost every weekend since. There have been beach trips and family picnics and vacations. There have been amusement parks and mini golf adventures. Now that the weather is getting cooler, there are farms to visit and apples to eat and fairs to have fun at.

I work all day, then after school/work just can’t shoo away my kids so I can vacuum or scrub toilets. I do keep up on laundry and keeping things generally uncluttered, but I just can’t find the time to wipe fingerprints off the refrigerator door. On the weekends I need to let loose and have fun with my kids just as much as they do with me so I just cannot bring myself to sacrifice family trips and bike rides for mops and buckets.

I know the easy answer…outsource. But hiring someone to do our cleaning isn’t in the cards for us right now. I do have a neat house, but would like to have something a bit more company ready at a moment’s notice.  Does anyone have any quick and easy tips for cleaning as you go versus taking a whole day to do it?

It only takes 5 minutes to clean the toilet. Try to break the chores into 5 minute item:

    -sweep kitchen
    -clean sink
    -swiffer bathroom

Then, whenever you have 5 minutes, do one. You can even keep a list and check them off so you don’t clean the sink twice in one week and never vacuum.

When my little one is taking a bath I wipe the toilet down with a clorox wipe, or something of the sort while the cleaner is soaking in the water. If I have the time I also wipe down the sink area with a wipe or just wipe the grime away with a wet cloth. That way I’m tackling two things at once, little one get’s a bath while supervised and cleaning is getting done.

If you don’t want to sacrifice kid time make them your little helpers! Give them simple easy jobs like dusting the entertainment center and coffee tables! You wash the dishes and have them rinse. Play music and sing and dance while doing it the kids will have a blast hanging out with mom and you get your house clean! Maybe just make it a plan if you have two days off a week take one where the family helps clean ( while having fun ) and then on your other day off go out and have fun but at least your house will be clean!!

Don’t know if any of you have heard of (on facebook too). She has a lot of great tips for cleaning and decluttering. Check It out, very encouraging – I need to get back on it too!

I love the 5 minute list. It is always easier to cope with tasks if they are broken down, then the chores are not so daunting. I have looked at the flylady’s blog she offers lots of good tips also check out this site for cleaning routine
