Toddler Mimicking Older Siblings Behaviors
- May 8, 2014 at 10:46 am #27650
Recently, my toddler has been mimicking his 7 year-old sister’s behaviors. It’s adorable when he’s acting out Frozen with her but not so much when it’s bad behavior. For instance, my daughter has started to use the word “mean” when she doesn’t get what she wants. We talk to her about not using hurtful words and can have a real discussion with her about why exactly she is angry (mostly she’s trying to push boundaries). But then our toddler picks up on these phrases and have started using them as well. We try to say the same things, “we don’t use hurtful words in this family”. But it’s a little harder for him to understand and it hasn’t really changed his behavior. In fact, most of the times he just laughs as if he figured out exactly how to push our buttons. It’s frustrating! Has anyone dealt with this behavior? What has worked for you to stop this?
