DIY New Year’s Eve Time Capsule for Kids
Looking for a fun way to commemorate the year with your kids? Make a New Year’s Eve time capsule! This kids craft is a great way to foster a discussion about memories from the past year and dream together about what is in store for the year to come.
Make Your Own New Year’s Eve Time Capsule
Brainstorm a list of questions to ask your children – questions that allow them to describe who they are now and what they’ve been up to this year! There are several ready-made printable questionnaires available on Pinterest (i.e. here and here and here), if you’re time-pressed. If you’re making your own, sample questions may include:
- Favorite Movie
- Favorite Food
- Favorite Activity
- Accomplishment They’re Most Proud of This Year
- Best Friend’s Name
- New Year’s Resolution for This Year
Collect your children’s responses (consider adding your own!) and place them into a keepsake jar. Let your kids help decorate the jar and tuck it away in a special place for the year. Next year on New Year’s Eve, open the jar together! It’ll be a fun way to see what has remained the same, what has changed, and how your kids have grown in the past year. This tradition will be entertaining for you and your children as you revisit their answers from year to year.
A tip for busy parents: Put a reminder about this project on your calendar for next year so you remember to open the jar! Happy New Year!
