Fall Traditions & Activities for Families

Fall is right around the corner! What is your family looking forward to most about the autumn season? Do you have special fall traditions or fun autumn activities planned? If you’re looking for ways to celebrate the season, check out these ideas from members of the Family Room blog team.

Apple picking in the Fall

Our Favorite Fall Traditions & Activities

Heather: We love to find ways to be outside. Apple picking, walks in the woods or hanging out around the fire pit. We really love to get outside as much as we can before the snow falls! And, it’s so nice to be mosquito-free after a buggy summer.

Amy: If you follow me on the blog, you know that I love taking the kids to pick your own fruit. Keeping with that family tradition, we love apple picking and pumpkin picking in the fall. Then, I love making apple pie and carving pumpkins for Halloween.

Mary: Apple picking with our best friends is our favorite fall tradition! Because the fall is so busy with birthdays and after-school activities, we often try to pre-plan our trip during the summer. One year we didn’t book it in advanced and we never could make the trip together. I still hate that we don’t have photos from that year!

Allison: Apple and pumpkin picking. We spend a day at a local farm picking apples and pumpkins. They have activities for the kids – a hay maze, pony rides and more. We enjoy apple cidar, donuts and other treats. When we get home, we bake apple pie together and later that week we paint or decorate pumpkins for our porch!

Laura: Fall is my favorite season, especially in New England. I can’t wait to go apple picking and bake apple pies with our little girl for the very first time.

Media Mom: We have a favorite pick-your-own pumpkin patch in Maine that we love to go to. They have all sorts of crazy looking gourds in tons of colors, shapes and sizes. We try to each pick our favorite traditional pumpkin and the craziest gourd we can find. Then we get to shoot corn cobs out of a hydraulic gun and try to reach a target in the woods. None of us has hit it yet, but we will keep trying!

What is your family’s favorite fall season tradition?
