Happy July 4th: Celebrating Summer with Family
The 4th of July is always a fun holiday for me. It feels like the real kick-off to the summer – even more so this year with my first child in school and now on summer vacation. There is just something about the relaxed atmosphere of the day that brings me back to my childhood and fond memories of parades, pool parties, bonfires, watermelon, friends, fireworks, ice cream and lots of outdoor summer fun.
We always celebrate July 4th with family and friends, usually at my brother’s annual pool party BBQ. This year, though, we are mixing it up and traveling for the long weekend. It’ll be Owen’s first experience on an airplane (wish me luck!). I’m sad about missing the party and also a tad worried about losing that chill holiday vibe. I’m keeping positive, though, knowing that we’re going to make our own fun this year.
And I hope you do too. To everyone reading this – family, friends, colleagues, lurkers – I want to wish you a happy and safe July 4th.
And don’t forget to have a watermelon party!
