Healthy Toddler Finger Food Recipes

Healthy Toddler Finger Food Recipes

As Liam has entered toddlerdom, his appetite seems to have changed. While he does still love a good puree, finger foods are now king. Where it was once a challenge to feed Liam at social events it’s now become easy–standard cocktail party fare like crudite and cheese and crackers are now the staples of his diet. He will eat a variety of fruits and vegetables which is great but there are few things that really bother me about the eating patterns we’ve fallen into:

  • He won’t eat veggies that have been cooked
  • He generally won’t eat meat (although he loves bacon and meatballs…clearly his mother’s son)
  • He doesn’t like many things I would consider “entrees”
  • He eats a lot of carbs

So, I set out to find some recipes that would diversify his diet a bit. I was looking for things that were toddler bite sized (or could be made bite sized) and/or were crunchy. Crunchiness seems to be an extremely desirable food characteristic for Liam as of late. Here are few recipes that I’ve found to be particularly successful.

1. Triple Hitter Muffins (via Food.com) I made mini muffins rather than regular muffins.

2. Zucchini Frit-Omelette (via Dove Tail Blog)

3. Toddler Muffins (via AllRecipes.com)

4. Baby Frittatas (via Weelicious)

5. Healthy Baked Chicken Nuggets (via Skinny Taste)

6. Sweet Potato Apple Turkey Loaf (via Wholesome Baby Food Guide)

I’ve never truly appreciated mini muffin tins until now. The best part is that these recipes are all pretty easy, cook up quick and many (like the muffins) freeze well.

What are your go-to recipes for finicky toddlers?

I just discovered Weelicious so I made a few different types of muffins. I froze them and then I just pull one out when he needs a little snack or he’s not eating what we’re having. It’s so convenient and the spinach ones are actually my favorite!
