A Letter to My Parents on Grandparents Day
As excited as I was to become a parent, I knew my parents were as equally excited to become grandparents. I consider myself fortunate to have my parents live close by and my (still very active) grandparents within a short drive. I cherish my childhood memories of spending weeks during the summer at both of my grandparents’ houses, hanging out by the pool, gardening, and taking mini day trips to sights along the Eastern seaboard. I couldn’t wait for my son, Cab, to have those same kinds of memories with his grandparents.
In the first year of his life, my son has already shared many great times with his grandparents – so in honor of National Grandparents Day, I wanted to say thanks to my parents for all that you do (and are) – not only today – but every day:
A Letter of Gratitude on National Grandparents Day
To Grandma and Grandpa,
Thank you for being there for my precocious little boy, lifting him up when he wants a better view, taking down things he points at beyond his reach. Thank you for those special moments and memories you make with him. The smiles, laughs, and giggles you share. Giving him the love people not only talk about but the kind you can see and feel.
I can’t wait for what the future holds, to be a fly on the wall watching your relationships evolve as the years tick by. For those first moments he goes out on the canoe with grandpa to the first time him and grandma go and pick out fabric for a custom bed quilt for his room.
Thank you for your never-ending love, support, kind words, and thoughts — not just to him, but to his mommy and daddy. Words can’t do justice to describe how lucky we are.
