Summer Activities for Families: Our Bucket List

Summer Activities for Families: Our Bucket List

I love lists. I make them all the time. Mostly, it’s because my brain is a scary place where information gets lost faster than you can say “I should write that down.” Not to mention that I don’t think there is anything more gratifying than picking up a pen and crossing something off. DONE. So, I live by lists. Lately, I’ve seen lots of families adopting the “bucket list” — particularly, the seasonal bucket list. This is right up my alley. I’ve been hesitant to start because Liam is still too little to really “get it” and at this point it would be us dictating a list rather than him participating in what the list should include. But then this summer rolled around, and much like every summer, our schedule is packed. Packed with good stuff — parties, weddings, get-togethers with friends and family, weekend trips, etc. – but suddenly it seems there is almost no room left for anything else. It’s looking like this summer will be just like others before it: fun, but way too busy.

I decided now is the time to start a Family Summer Bucket List and fill it with the stuff that we might otherwise not make the time to do that usually ends up being the most fun. The stuff summer family memories are made of. Our list, so far, looks like this.

From this point on, I’m considering our summer calendar booked. Unscheduled nights and weekend days will be spent doing bucket list activities and other spontaneous summer stuff that didn’t make the list. Did your family make a summer bucket list? Whether you make a list or not, I hope you have a wonderful summer with your family. Remember, we only get 18 summers. Liam may not even be two yet but I well up every time I think of that.
