Teacher Holiday Gift Idea: Homemade Ice Cream Kit

Teacher Holiday Gift Idea: Homemade Ice Cream Kit

It’s that time of year again when I start stressing out about what to give all of my boys’ teachers for holiday gifts. I was a teacher for several years and got my share of candy, candles and ornaments so now as a parent I try to think of gifts that are a combination of inexpensive and something the teachers might actually use and like. Both of my boys attend child care and have multiple teachers, and Max is in public school where he has two teachers and 5 therapists. That equals A LOT of gifts. Rather than try and figure out specific gifts for each, I try and think of something that I can do for all, either as one large group or individually.

Gift Idea: Homemade Ice Cream Sundae Kit

Homemade Ice Cream KitThis year, I’m making homemade ice cream sundae kits for the child care teachers. I’ll include homemade hot fudge and caramel sauce, as well as ice cream.  The public school teachers/therapists are getting homemade peppermint handsoap with small hand towels (scored on deep discount during my Black Friday shopping). I purchased Mason Jars (also on deep discount, $.50 each!) with these tops. TIP: If you’re going to try making this, you can find the liquid glycerin in the drug store as stated. I found mine with the laxatives though, not the bandaids. It was nowhere to be found at craft stores.

These things don’t take long to make at all. I can make the homemade sauces and soap at the same time as cooking dinner one night, or right after the kids go to bed. In my opinion they are both easier than baking cookies or running all over for gift cards.

Other Teacher Holiday Gift Ideas for Parents

In the spirit of sharing, here are some things I’ve done in the past:

  • Cute teacher themed notebooks in a bag with homemade cookies and candy.
  • Bags with stainless steel water bottles, all natural hand sanitizer and other “staying healthy” type goodies.
  • Combined with other families in my sons’ classes to buy the teachers lunch and have it delivered to the center. We ordered pizza, salad and drinks from a local pizza shop, then sent a Dancing Deer cookie set for dessert.

How about you? Help fellow working parents everywhere out and share your best teacher gift ideas.
