Telling Your Husband You’re Pregnant
Telling your spouse you’re pregnant is one of the biggest and most exciting pieces of news you will ever share with them. It is literally life-changing. Some women choose to await the test result with their spouse by their side, while others (myself included) don’t clue their husband in on what they’re doing. I was home alone the day I took the test and the word “Pregnant” popped up on the screen. My husband was still at work, and the thought of him finding out he was going to be a dad via text message sounded less than ideal. I was dying to share the news. It was by far the hardest secret I’ve ever had to keep – and I only had to keep it for four hours.
I thought about how I wanted to share the news once he got home, and I knew I didn’t have too long to pull something together. I scoured Google and Pinterest but eventually came up with my own idea. Seeing as though our Christmas décor was up, I bought a small stocking, wrote the words “Baby W” in silver glitter and bought a baby rattle to place inside of it.
After the four longest hours of my life, my husband arrived home where I informed him that I had a surprise for him. I had him sit on the couch with his eyes closed as I hung the stocking and then instructed him to look at the mantel upon opening his eyes. It took his eyes a solid few seconds to find our new family member’s stocking, but once he did he lit right up!
The stocking also turned out to be a great way to share the news with our family and friends via FaceTime and pictures sent out through text messages, as the majority of them live a plane ride away. It was a little more work than blurting out the news when he walked through the door, but it made for such a fun memory that I can’t wait to tell our little one about a few years down the road!
