The Boston Marathon
The Marathon. It defines Boston. It is the perfect symbol for a city that prides itself — for good or for bad — more on what is elite than popular. A long and winding, tumultuous course that pushes you through heartbreak only to make victory that much sweeter. That is our history, our tradition, and the sport which we have made a holiday all our own.
Today Boston and our beloved Marathon have suffered a heartbreak that will not soon be overcome. Three lay dead where runners should have been basking in glory. An 8-year-old boy saw his last day where he should have been dreaming of the future. In our hometown.
Today we are mourning the dead and offering hope for the injured. We are extending our thoughts and sympathies to all who have been impacted. We are asking why. We are hugging our own children a little tighter. We are coming together, and we are bidding farewell to a tradition that will surely return but will never be the same.
On behalf of the entire Bright Horizons family, our heartfelt thoughts are with everyone affected by the tragedy that took place at the Boston Marathon yesterday afternoon.
