The Holidays: A Break in the Routine
I took the last week and a half off. In fact, today is my first day back at work, and it’s looking like tomorrow is going to be a snow day and I couldn’t be happier. Last night, I was secretly hoping today would be one as well. I’m not ready for vacation to end.
Now before you roll your eyes and think great, another blissfully happy mom singing the praises of the magic of Christmas with her perfect angel children, let me tell you I am not that mom. I’m usually the one counting the minutes until the bus arrives in the morning or wishing it was time to go back to work. But not this time.
The reason this time off was so good, is because I didn’t worry in the slightest about organizing or housework or any of that. Usually I have a long “honey do” list for both my husband and I to complete during time away from work. I save projects big and small to work on while when I can. But this time? This time I took time to rest and to play board games with the boys when they asked. My husband and I even sent them to daycare for two days so we could go to the movies and out to lunch. We visited with friends and family, cuddled on the couch and played with the new toys (including a drum set mind you) that Santa brought.
I’m so thankful for the time and honestly feel refreshed and ready to jump back into work…next week, once the snow melts and I change out of my flannel jammies.
Happy New Year.
