Week of the Young Child Activities at Bright Horizons

Last week we celebrated The Week of the Young Child™ in our centers, an annual event hosted by The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to recognize early learning, young children, their teachers, families, and communities.

Each day of the week had a special theme, but centers across the country got creative and celebrated in different ways! Here are some fun highlights from the week:

Music Monday

Children using sticks to make music

Bright Horizons at Lawrenceville celebrated Music Monday with an ensemble that included maracas, drums, and more!

What They Learned

The children grew their language and early literacy skills – all while moving their bodies and being active!

Tasty Tuesday

Toddler and teacher making pizza dough together

The children of Bright Horizons at Naperville made yummy pizzas with Chef Mike to celebrate Tasty Tuesday.

What They Learned

The children learned about more than just healthy eating and nutrition; their cooking lesson connected math with literacy skills, science, and more.

Work Together Wednesday

Preschoolers building a fort together in the classroom

At Bright Horizons at Hall Boulevard, the preschool class worked together to build a cozy fort for reading.

What They Learned

Along with learning math, science, and early literacy skills, the children practiced teamwork and cooperation.

Artsy Thursday

Bright Horizons at the Y spent the day exploring the work and styles of famous artists, and then picked up the paintbrush themselves!

What They Learned

The children learned to critique and make observations about artwork and illustrations. They also practiced fine motor skills while engaging in creative art making.

Family Friday

Mom and daughter taking a silly photo together with sunglasses

“Say cheese!”At Bright Horizons at Trumbull, children and their families had a blast laughing and taking silly photos together.

What They Learned

While the children practiced early literacy skills, families were celebrated for supporting their children and being the first and most important teachers in their young learners’ lives.

How fun to see the creative ways that our centers celebrated The Week of the Young Child! Did your family participate?
